Arriving to Lima
If possible try to book your flights to Peru so that you arrive during daytime. If your flight to Peru is arriving at night it's a good idea to ask your hotel to pick you up from the airport so you avoid the hassle with the taxi drivers. The area outside airport is not really nice and even more so at night.
Visas
Usually there's no need for Visa. Atleast people from North America, Europe, Australia and many other countries can travel to Peru without visa. Usually this is for 90 days and after that you will have to get an extension that costs about 30 USD.
Departure tax
When leaving the country on an international flight you have to pay a departure tax. The amount changes, but expect it to be US$25-$30 or the equivalent in soles. This has to be payed in cash before entering the departure area. There is also an internal flight tax, around 6 USD
